Inspirational Garden Rooms
Inspirational is a big loaded word. According to the Cambridge Dictionary something that is described as being inspirational can even go as far as making you feel “full of hope or encouraged”. That is the wonderful thing about art and inspiration in general is that it can produce positive emotions in you and in the people around you.
We all love to see inspirational projects. Those projects that get you excited about art, buildings or life in general. This is especially true when it comes to your home and building projects. From inside to out, having a blank canvas to create a backdrop for your life can be incredibly inspiring. Bespoke garden rooms are no exception. At Createspace we have had the opportunity to design and work on many bespoke garden rooms that have inspired and brought much joy to their owners.
In this article, we have collected a group of our favourite inspirational garden rooms to share with for you. You never know you might even get some ideas for your own bespoke garden room.
Bespoke Writers Shed

Hidden away in Hackney, London is a gem of a garden room. A passion project and collaboration with architect and maker Joseph Deane, this bespoke garden room is heavily influenced by folklore and fairytales which are the clients passion.
A perfect example of how a garden room can act as a haven in an urban environment, this is a fantastic space where the client can retreat to. Used as an office, and a library, the skylight gives perfect light even on the gloomiest of British days.

Be inspired to:
- Play with shape, especially on the interior of your garden room.
- Use quality wood cedar materials to make the cladding really stand out.
Bespoke Garden Office

Garden rooms don’t have to be conventional shapes, in fact with a bit of creative engineering you can have a great organic shape that flows well into the garden space. No room shows this as well as the Shoffice (shed + office) in St Johns Wood.
The timber shell curves around to then form a terrace on the lawn. With a fitted cantilevered desk and storage, this project merges form and function to create a spectacular bespoke garden office.

Be inspired to:
- Not be put off by small cramped spaces, bespoke garden rooms can be designed to perfectly fit your space.
- Design your garden room to fit your needs, they can work so well as a work-from-home office.
Bespoke Studio

When most people think garden room they tend to think of a shed structure that is mostly wood or another material. While this is still popular, it is not the only possibility for a bespoke garden room. This writer’s studio in Edinburgh makes use of glass in a contemporary way to create a bespoke studio that takes its cue from heritage design.
Victorian glasshouses were the start of this innovative design. In the garden of a Victorian villa, the glass helps bring a utilitarian feel to the timber structure that is a perfect creative space to work from.

Be inspired to:
- Make the most of glass with windows and doors to bring as much light in as possible to your garden room. Pokey sheds are the thing of the past!
- Take your home’s history and aesthetic into account when building a garden room in the grounds.
Bespoke Entertainment Room

A Garden room doesn’t have to just encompass one space. In this bespoke garden entertainment room Createspace garden rooms worked on in Brighton, we were able to provide both an indoor and outdoor space that works perfectly for entertaining.
Beautiful Canadian red cedar cladding helps the space flow from one area to another seamlessly, resulting in an outdoor space that is just as beautiful as the indoor space.

Be inspired to:
- Not be restricted to just thinking about a building, but also how it can be used as an outside space.
- Play with colour and natural woods to create a polished effect for your garden room.
Bespoke Garden Room

Materials can really alter the feel of a garden room, and the joy of having a bespoke one made just for you is the creative control you have over the materials. Journalist Fiona Golfar’s writing shed is known by her and her family as “The Dale” after the local carpenter who collaborated with her on the project Dale Primmer.
You can see Dale’s love of his materials in the texture of the finish on the interior of the garden room. Leaving the wood natural and varying means that the garden room is as unique as its creator and owner.

Be inspired to:
- Be creative with quality materials to introduce texture to the build.
- Think about wrap around porch to blend the building with the garden space.
