BENEFITS
Our green roofs have multiple benefits, including:
- They are very attractive, and have a softening effect on your garden room, perfectly blending into your garden.
- They create a great habitat for wildlife, such as birds, bees and butterflies as well as a massive variety of insects.
- They provide fantastic insulation to your green room, keeping it at a comfortable temperature and also saving on heating costs.
- They help to reduce pressure on drainage systems, as they absorb up to 50% of rainfall releasing it slowly.
- They encourage well-being and concentration, improving productivity, making it a great choice for home offices or studios.
HISTORY
Having a roof that not only protects you but that adds to the local environment is not a new idea. For thousands of years, societies have been known to use living roofs, with the Babylonians and early Norse cultures being some of the advocates. Traditionally this was used as a method of insulating their buildings, with clever use of materials available. Modern day green roofs have become popular since the 1980s as a way to encourage environmentally-friendly structures.
UPKEEP
Our green roofs are hardy and require minimal maintenance to keep them looking great. The main things you need to look out for are:
- Weeds – Pull out any unwanted weeds to make sure your living roof is getting all the nutrients it needs to thrive.
- Water – Especially in the summer when there is less natural rainfall, water little and often to stop your roof from turning red.
- Feed – In the spring you can use a 6-month slow release seaweed fertiliser to give your roof a boost
